IMI / Red Wings
A vast and sandy area of some 10,000,000 m² in the center of Israel near the City of Yavne and less than 500 meters from Highway No.4.
This area was an open storage ammunition depot for various ammunitions. In 1976 a fire caused an unintentional detonation of the depot scattering ammunitions for kilometers in each direction. Since than occasional summer fires had expanded the problem and the effected perimeter.
This was the densest UXO clearance site ever contracted in Israel.
The project’s mission was to find, gather and dispose of all the exposed ammunitions in the “Ground Zero” of the explosion at a size of some 160,000m²
Mechanical Vegetation Clearance, Robotic assistance, Manual detection, Open Detonations, Contained Detonations, Dismantling, Recycling.
12 Month of operation 2011/12
More than 160,000 kilograms of all types of field ammunitions were located, gathered, classified and disposed off. Operations included disposal in Situ of thousands of sensitive to move ammunitions. Contained Detonations of over 50 tons of ammunitions on site. In addition dismantling processes were carried on site including a unique facility that was designed and constructed enabling us to defuse thousands of projectiles and then transport them safely to Demil facilities elsewhere.
